The application does not have a problem bank. Therefore, the students can pose and solve unlimited number of problems of their choice. Easy-to-learn drawing tools enable the students to pose the problems.
The application consists of five components.
- Lecture: A powerpoint presentation of the fundamentals of Engineering Statics.
- Force-Moment-Couple: Basic calculations involving resultants and components of force, moment, and couple.
- Free-Body-Diagram: Drawing tools for trusses, frames, and machines. The application draws the free-body-diagrams. The application guides the students through the steps of the analysis of the free-body-diagrams of the entire structure and its components.
- Shear and Bending-Moment Diagram: Drawing tools for posing a beam problem with simple and clamped supports, force, couple, and distributed force loadings. The application guides the students through the various steps of drawing the shear and bending moment diagrams.
- Area Properties: Drawing tools for creating simple and composite areas. The areas can be created from simple geometrical objects, such as, ellipse, circle, and polygon. Students can also enter the equations of the bounding curves of an area. The application calculates area, location of centroid, and the products and moments of inertia. The application can demonstrate the use of rotation-axis and parallel-axis theorems.
